Family Camping in Rishikesh: Creating Memories by the Ganges

Reconnect with Camping in Rishikesh

In the past few days, I decided that the time had come to turn our screen filled moments into some real moments. We should do something so that our family members, who are so busy and worried about their work, forget all this for some time and enjoy nature together. So, first of all, I prepared the eldest members of my family to go for a trip. The rest of the younger brothers and sisters were ready anyway, they liked to travel anyway. Then when I saw that my family is ready now,

Why Rishikesh Stole Our Hearts

Rishikesh

Rishikesh is not just for nature lovers or solo travelers, it is such an incredible place where families like us can enjoy nature without any hassle. The atmosphere here is very peaceful and serene and the view here is like a painting which spreads its colors. Whoever comes here gets painted in its colors.

What Makes It So Perfect for Families?

  • The riverside is gentle and kid-friendly—no steep drops or wild currents.
  • Campsites are legit, with clean bathrooms and cozy tents that feel like home.
  • Certified guides lead every activity, so you’re always in safe hands.
  • It’s quiet—far from the touristy chaos, with space to breathe.
  • Kids get to soak up nature, spot wildlife, and learn about local culture in a way that sticks.

Our Ganga-Side Adventure

Ganga-Side Adventure

Rishikesh is a serene place where the Ganges river lulls you to peace and lets you enjoy a sound sleep. Our Swiss tents were a game-changer – comfortable beds, private bathrooms, perfect comfort for my parents and my entire family. Then at night, we all gathered around the bonfire, our faces glowing, listening to and telling each other silly stories and playing the guitar under the starry sky.

Then the next morning we started with yoga, then when we saw the sun, it looked very beautiful peeking from the hills, with the setting sun we also did stretching on the banks of the water

Family-Friendly Camps We Loved

Here are a few spots that made our trip unforgettable:

1. Camp Ganga Vatika

  • Tucked by the river, it’s your own private slice of paradise.
  • Morning yoga and hearty veggie meals kept us fueled.
  • Super safe for little ones—my nephew roamed worry-free.

2. Green Hills Camp

  • A play area that had the kids hooked.
  • Guided nature walks and storytelling nights by the fire.

3. Aspen Adventure Camp

  • Big family tents and easy trails for all ages.
  • Ziplining and rafting for the teens (14+ only).

Pro Tip: Check reviews and safety certifications before booking—cleanliness and good staff make all the difference.

Adventures That Lit Us Up

Rishikesh has this knack for offering just the right dose of thrill for families:

  • Rafting (Grade I–II): Smooth enough for teens 14+, with plenty of laughs.
  • Nature Walks: Winding forest trails with views that stop you in your tracks.
  • Birdwatching: We spotted vibrant birds in the Rajaji forest buffer zone.
  • Waterfall Treks: Short hikes to cascading falls—perfect for family selfies.
  • Yoga Sessions: Calming classes that even the kids loved trying.

Keeping the Kids Safe

Camping with family is a blast, but safety comes first:

  • Stick to licensed camps with trained staff.
  • Pack a first-aid kit and any meds you might need.
  • Long sleeves keep the bugs at bay for the little ones.
  • Avoid fast river currents or sketchy trails.
  • Always tell camp staff if you’re heading out for an adventure.

When to Go for the Best Vibes

  • February to May: Cool nights, sunny days—ideal for camping.
  • October to early December: Crisp air and jaw-dropping views.
  • Skip July to September: Monsoons make trails slippery and rivers wild.

What We Packed

  • Light sweaters for chilly evenings.
  • Sunscreen and bug spray (a must!).
  • Power banks to keep phones alive for photos.
  • Flip-flops for the camp, sturdy shoes for trails.
  • Snacks and a thermos for late-night hot chocolate.

Getting to Rishikesh

  • By Road: A 6-7 hour drive from Delhi (240 km)—we sang the whole way!
  • By Train: Yog Nagari Rishikesh station is super convenient.
  • By Air: Fly to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun (35 km from camp).

Moments We’ll Never Forget

This trip wasn’t just a holiday trip – it was a way for all of us to come together. My nephew’s eyes lit up when he did his first cliff jump. My parents, who are usually busy with their daily routine, laughed like children around the fire. We shared stories, faced little challenges along the way and felt the calmness of the Ganges wash over us. These are memories I will always carry with me.
